Pangunahing Traits
Habitat: Human dwellings, urban alleyways, rural barns, and shadowy corners of settlements worldwide, wherever domestic cats have followed civilization
Cultural Symbolism
The black cat symbolizes mysticism, shapeshifting, and the liminal space between worlds. In ancient Egypt, black cats were revered as incarnations of the goddess Bastet and killing one was punishable by death. In Celtic and Japanese folklore, they are guardians that ward off evil spirits. While Western superstition cast them as omens of misfortune, many cultures — including Scottish and English traditions — consider a black cat crossing your path a sign of coming prosperity. The black cat teaches us that what is feared by some may be a blessing to others.
