Dodo
Habitat: Tropical forests, woodland groves, and coastal areas of the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean, before its extinction around 1681
Kulturel Symbolik
The dodo symbolizes innocence, the fragility of island ecosystems, and the irreversibility of extinction. Having evolved without natural predators, the dodo had no fear of humans, a trust that led to its demise. The phrase "dead as a dodo" makes it a powerful reminder that what is lost can never be recovered, urging us to protect the vulnerable and unique.
